The third season was released on July 4, 2019, with eight episodes. It takes place in the summer of 1985. The season focuses on reopening the gate to the Upside Down by a secret Soviet operation under Starcourt Mall. A new shopping center in Hawkins.

The fourth season was released in two volumes: Volume 1 on May 6, 2022, and Volume 2 on July 15, 2022. Each volume consists of four episodes. The season occurs in 1986, following Hopper’s apparent death and Eleven’s loss of her powers as they face new threats from the Upside Down and the Russians.
