The sixth season of the urban fantasy television series “Lucifer” has ended. The show is inspired by the fallen angel Lucifer Morningstar played by Tom Ellis. Lucifer is based on the DC Comics character initially introduced in “Sandman” series by Neil Gaiman. After tired of ruling Hell, the TV show shows Lucifer rebelling against God and heading to Los Angeles to run a Lux nightclub.
While in LA, Lucifer meets LAPD detective Chloe Decker played by Lauren German, and the two form a surprising bond. Lucifer’s immense gift allows him to manipulate humans to reveal their true desires. He then becomes a civilian consultant for the LAPD. He starts working as Detective Decker’s partner in solving crimes and learning more about each other.
“Lucifer” got exponentially positive reviews as the show went on. Season 6 is just as entertaining as the other seasons. But is this the end of TV’s favorite devil? Here’s what happened at the end of Season 6 and what it means for the future of “Lucifer.”
Lucifer’s daughter shook things up.
At the end of the first episode of “Lucifer” Season 6, viewers get a glimpse of some boots that were attached to someone. We soon see the person to whom the shoes belonged. Turns out the shoes belong to none other than Chloe and Lucifer’s daughter, Rory, played by Brianna Hildebrand. She had time-traveled to the past to confront her father about abandoning his own family.
Rory explains that, in her timeline, Lucifer left her and Chloe behind without any reason, this bombshell that leaves him stunned and confused. Mainly because, according to Lucifer, that can never happen as he personally knows how an abandoned child feels like. Much of the sixth season consists of Lucifer attempting to piece together why he would abandon his loved ones. Finally, it leads to him discovering his true purpose, which is not to become the God but to help the lost souls of their hell loops and move on to Heaven. This means Lucifer needs to leave his family behind, which ensures that the future Rory traveled from will still become a reality.
After assuring her father that his disappearance is for his bigger purpose, Rory returns to her present. But that the show doesn’t end there. Rory again appears in the final episode of the series in a flash-forward scene where she is with an elderly Chloe on her death bed.

Partners until the end
Once Lucifer realizes his purpose is to return to Hell and help others, he and Chloe share a final night before departure. Chloe then resumes her work with the police force and later gives birth to Rory. We then catch her again years later as she lays on her deathbed, with Rory appearing to wish her mother goodbye. However, Rory also reminds her mother that they’ll get to be together again soon because she’s an angel, which makes Chloe’s death that much more bittersweet.
Chloe then enters what looks like purgatory- an empty, white room — and meets with Amendadiel, played by D.B. Woodside, who takes over God’s role. Lucifer is shown working as a therapist in the show’s last moments when someone knocks on the door. The visitor, quite movingly, turns out to be Chloe. It shows that Amendadiel used his Godly authority to allow Chloe to go to Hell, which becomes her “new home.”
In other words, Chloe’s new home ends up where Lucifer is, and the lovers are allowed to live for the rest of eternity together. Partners until the end, indeed.
Lucifer highlights the importance of therapy.
Therapy has always played an essential role in “Lucifer,” specifically in the emotional and philosophical transformation that its titular character has undergone. Lucifer goes through several significant changes throughout the show’s six seasons. He realizes he doesn’t want to be a God, his priorities change, and he discovers that his true calling is helping other lost souls. His extreme transformation equips him with the self-confidence and tools necessary to help others and lets him shift his focus away from trying to ascend into Heaven.
Therefore, Lucifer becoming a therapist in the Season 6 finale is a perfect full-circle moment.

Lucifer ending: A happy ending for all
Rory, Lucifer, and Chloe had their own surprisingly bittersweet endings in the “Lucifer” finale, but what happened to the rest of the ensemble cast members? First, the kind and lovable Amendadiel takes his rightful place in Heaven as God makes perfect sense given how deeply he cares about humanity. Meanwhile, Lucifer and Chloe’s friend and LAPD colleague, Ella Lopez played by Aimee Garcia, finally establishes her STEM initiative for young women to get involved in science.
Additionally, Dan Espinoza played by Kevin Alejandro is freed from his guilt and reunited with Charlotte Richards pkayed Tricia Helfer in a Heaven of their own. At the same time, the demon Mazikeen played by Lesley-Ann Brandt marries Eve, the first woman, played by Inbar Lavi, and the two go on to hunt bad guys together. Elsewhere, Dr. Linda Martin, played by Rachael Harris and Amendadiel’s adorable son Charlie manage to sprout some tiny angel wings of his own.
Overall, “Lucifer” Season 6 ends on a happy note. We’re glad the show’s writers were given more time to wrap up each of its characters’ journeys.
Will there be more seasons of Lucifer?
Unfortunately for fans, there will be no more seasons of “Lucifer.” Co-showrunner Joe Henderson already told Netflix that Season 6 would be the show’s final chapter. “When they were like, ‘Can you do one more?’ we said, ‘Yes, but this our last story.’”
Of course, that doesn’t mean fans won’t get to see actor Tom Ellis reprise his role in a future “Lucifer” spin-off or other DC project. However, there’s no telling when and if that might happen, which means that, for now, fans will have to learn to be content with the six seasons they got to spend with Ellis’ Lucifer.
